COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
FLATIRONS, ELECTRIC
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this
Commercial Item Description in lieu of Federal Specification W-F-441.
This commercial item description covers flatirons of the following types, as specified:
Type I- Dry
Type II- Steam
Salient characteristics:
Type 1, dry.
1. Shall conform to the applicable requirements of UL Standard 1005.
2. 120 volts AC
3. Smooth, snag- free sole plate.
4. Fabric guide indicator.
5. Temperature selector.
6. Heel rest.
7. Button nook.
8. Weight- 2 to 4 pounds.
Type II, spray/steam/dry.
1. Shall conform to the applicable requirements of UL Standard 1005.
2. 120 units AC.
3. Smooth, snag-free sole plate.
4. Minimum of 25 steam vents.
5. Fabric guide indicator.
6. Temperature selector.
7. Push button spray.
8. Heel rest.
9. Button nook.
10. Water level window or transparent water tank.
11. Weight- 3 to 4 pounds.
The issue of UL Standard 1005 in effect on the date of the solicitation shall be used to determine compliance with stated requirements.
Certification. The contractor shall certify that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this description and that the product conforms to the producer’s own drawings, specifications, standards and quality assurance practices and is the same product offered for sale in the commercial marketplace. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
Recovered materials. The manufacturer shall utilize recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable.
Packaging, packing, and marking. The flatirons shall be packaged in accordance with normal commercial practice and packed in fiberboard boxes that will assure acceptance by common carrier and provide product protection against loss and damage during multiple shipments, handling, and storage. The shipping container shall be in compliance with National Motor Freight Classification and Uniform Freight Classification. Marking shall be in accordance with the contract or order.
