The pan, consisting of a bottom with sides, back, and hood, shall be made from 0.0164 inch (0.42 mm) minimum thickness sheet steel. Seams shall be sealed to prevent dust leakage. The front edge of the pan shall be 10-1/2 to 12-1/2 inches (25.9 to 31.8 cm) wide. The side edges shall be a minimum of 7-1/2 inches (19.1 cm long). The clearance from hood top to pan bottom shall be a minimum of 2-1/2 inches (6.4 cm). The pan shall have durable protective finish to prevent corrosion.
The handle shall be minimum of 26 inches (66.1 cm) long, shall be made from durable, rigid material. The handle shall be securely fastened to the pan and shall not disengage from the pan during normal use. The handle shall have a durable protective finish.
3.2 Labeling. The dustpans shall be labeled in a plain and permanent manner with manufacturer’s name or trademark of such known character that the source of manufacture may be readily identified.
3.3 Workmanship. The finished dustpan shall function smoothly and efficiently for the purpose intended and shall be free from chipped finish, sharp edges, splits, dents, corrosion, or any other affecting appearance or serviceability.
3.4 Measurement system. The values stated inch-pound units are to be regarded as the standard. The metric values stated in parenthesis are for information purposes only.
3.5 Metric products. Products manufactured to metric dimensions will be considered on an equal basis with those manufactured using inch-pound units, providing they fall within tolerances specified and all other requirements of this document are met. If a product is manufactured to metric dimensions and those dimensions exceed the tolerances specified in the inch-pound units, a request should be made to the contracting officer to determine if the product is acceptable.
4. REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS.
4.1 Regulatory requirements. The offeror/contractor is encouraged to use recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable, in accordance with 23.403 of the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR).
5. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS
5.1 Product conformance. The products provided shall meet the salient characteristics of this commercial item description, conform to the producer’s own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices and be the same product offered for sale in the commercial market. The government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance.
6. PACKAGING
6.1 Packaging. Preservation, packing, and marking shall be as specified in the contract or purchase order.
7. NOTES
7.1 Part Identification Number (PIN). Dustpans conforming with this commercial item description shall be identified by a part number configuration consisting of identification of a portion of the CID number and type. An example of a part number configuration is shown below. This part numbering system is intended for identification and cross-indexing of the item within the federal cataloging system. The following part identification numbering procedure is for government purposes and does not constitute a requirement for the contractor.
