COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
HANDCART, GROCERY, NESTING
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
1. CLASSIFICATION
1.1 Classification. This commercial item description covers one type and size of grocery handcart which nests one into the other.
2. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS
2.1 Design and construction. The handcart frame shall be constructed of heavy gauge tubular steel with an attached, nonremovable, close-mesh, heavy gauge wire basket. The handcart shall have a lower grill (shelf or tray) for large packages or for bulky items. The basket shall be reinforced with a minimum of 6 horizontal supporting heavy gauge, metal bands. The handcart shall be nickel chrome plated with a baked on acrylic coating. The basket shall have a folding baby seat and rear hinged gate. The handle shall be covered with tubular plastic material. The handcart shall have a nesting feature of approximately 10 inches. The minimum basket capacity shall be 10,200 cubic inches grain measurement at level loaded capacity. The minimum total capacity of the handcart shall be 15,000 cubic inches. The overall approximate dimensions of the handcart shall be 38 inches long, 24 inches wide, and 42 inches high.
2.2 Wheels and casters. The handcart shall have twp 5 inch minimum diameter rear rigid wheels and two diameter front swivel casters. The wheels and casters shall have 1-1/2 inch wide minimum tire treads.
