COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
HANDCART, GROCERY, CARRYOUT
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
1. Intended use. This commercial item description covers a handcart for transporting food items and sundry products. The handcart may be converted to a handtruck by lifting the upper shelf.
2. Salient characteristics.
2.1 Design and construction. The handcart shall be constructed of nickel chrome plated steel tubing and heavy gauge steel wire. The base frame shall be equivalent in strength to one inch square, 16 gauge steel tubing. The vertical frame shall be 7/8 inch minimum diameter, 18 minimum gauge steel tubing or 3/4 inch minimum square, 16 gauge steel tubing. The handcart shall have three closed sides with an open front and a hinged top shelf that swings upward. The sides, back, and bottom and top shelves shall be 6 gauge minimum steel wire welded to heavy gauge wire to reinforce support. The bottom and top shelves shall be parallel to the floor. The handcart shall have a weather resistant protective coating and shall weigh approximately 55 pounds. The overall approximate dimensions of the handcart shall be 31 inches long, 23 inches wide, and 44 inches high. The approximate dimensions between shelves shall be 20 inches.
2.2 Wheels and casters. The handcart shall have two front swivel casters and two rear rigid wheels. The front casters shall be 5 inches minimum in diameter with a 1 inch minimum width tire tread. The rear wheels shall be semipneumatic, self lubricating, roller bearing t.vpe, 10 inch minimum diameter with a 1-3/4 inch minimum width tire tread and shall have a 5/8 inch minimum diameter axle.
