COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
IRONING BOARD, PAD, AND COVER (HOUSEHOLD)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description (CID), for all Federal agencies.
1. SCOPE.
1.1 Scope. This commercial item description covers house hold metal ironing boards, ironing board pads, and ironing board covers.
2. CLASSIFICATION
2.1 Classification. The ironing boards, pads, and covers, shall be of the following types and classes, as specified (see 7.2)
Type I - Ironing board pad with pad and class B cover.
Type II - Ironing board pad
Type III - Ironing board cover
Class A - Uncoated cotton
Class B - Teflon treated or silicone-aluminum coated cotton.
3. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS
3.1 Ironing board. The ironing board shall provide a stable, smooth, ventilated, ironing surface and shall have the following characteristics.
A. The ironing board shall be made of commercial Grade, cold rolled steel and shall have a baked enamel finish or an electrostatic powder coated finish, at the manufacturer’s option.
B. The ironing board shall have a T-leg or four-leg design, at the option of the manufacturer, and shall have a non-mar, non-skid cushioning cap over the end of each leg.
C. The ironing board shall have a means of opening, closing, and locking, to a selected ironing surface height.
D. The ironing board surface height shall be adjustable to any height ranging from 24 + 1 inches (61.0 +2.5 cm) up to 36 + 1 inches (91.4 + 2.5 cm), measured from the top surface of the ironing board to the floor. A positive retention feature shall maintain the selected ironing surface height and prevent the ironing board from collapsing.
E. The ironing board shall fold flat for storage.
F. The ironing surface shall be perforated or expanded mesh design, at the manufacturer’s option.
G. The ironing surfaces shall have the shape and dimensions shown in figure 1. The corners at the wide end shall be slightly rounded.
